I can hear the chants….
“Raisins do not belong in puff puff!”
Believe me, I am on your side but as a food blogger, I need to explore recipes not based on only my preferences but for the lovers of certain ingredients. For that reason and that reason alone, cinnamon raisin puff puff came to be.
I don’t know what it is about raisins but as a child, i felt it always got in the way of great cakes and breads. I prefer raisins in savoury intended items like fried rice, salads, sauces etc.
My mum on the other hand will put raisins in egusi soup if she could. That’s how much she loves them. She has raisins with her yoghurt, her cereal, her chocolate and everything in between. Naturally, she was my taster for this recipe because if she liked it then it would be a winner for the raisin champions.
I can safely say I just had the one puff puff and she thoroughly enjoyed the rest of these cinnamon raisin puff puffs during her tea-time and all I am left with are the memories of them through these images.
I will say if you have a low tolerance of raisins but still want to try this recipe, these are a few tricks to apply;
- Ensure your raisins are chopped into tiny bits before mixing into the puff puff dough.
- Fry larger balls of puff puff instead of smaller ones so you can have some bread like bits with a hint of raisins.
