• Cameroonian Pilé Pilé

I have to say that the Afrolems community of fans and followers are super amazing when it comes to support. If you are following us on social media, you would have seen during the week I posted my Poulet DG recipe on all the networks. My post invited this new recipe of Cameroonian Pilé Pilé into my life. A fan on facebook Fotini reached out to me and introduced this very simple but tasty dish with the recipe, picture and everything and I absolutely had to try it. All my recipes that I had planned to make this week went out the window for this one. I also checked online and only found one other website that had the recipe in french so I was super stoked to be bringing it to the english speaking fans. I added my own Nigerian twist to it by adding crayfish powder to it and it was divine. You can also use sweet potatoes instead of plantain. Thank you so much Fotini for sharing this with me. I present to you Cameroonian Pilé Pilé.

    Recipe for Cameroonian Pilé Pilé

    Ingredients (Serves 1)

    1 yellow ripe plantain

    1/2 cup of Red Beans

2 cooking spoons of Palm oil

2 chopped scotch bonnet peppers (ata rodo)

    1/4 bulb of onions (chopped)

    Seasoning cubes

    2 cloves of garlic (chopped)

    Handful of chopped spring onions

    1 tablespoon crayfish powder

    Method

Soak the Red beans in water for 2-3 hours and place in a pot with water and bring to boil till beans is very soft. If you are using a regular pot, it may take a really long time to get the beans to be soft but keep boiling till it’s soft. If you have a pressure cooker, it would take less time.

In a separate pot, peel the plantain and place in the pot and bring to boil. Once plantain is soft, mash and set aside.

Once the beans is soft, mash and set aside.

In a pan or pot, heat up the palm oil on medium heat and fry the chopped onions, spring onions, garlic and pepper.

Stir in the mashed plantain and mashed beans. Season with seasoning cubes and crayfish powder. Stir fry for another 2-3 minutes and serve hot.
