• Chicken Suya

Suya is a popular street snack in Nigeria and apparently other West African countries. I was talking to a few of my friends from Ivory Coast and Cameroon and I was trying to find out what people eat during soccer matches as the World Cup is coming up. The common item was suya. Chicken suya to be specific. This made me realize that although we are all in different countries, we share very similar cultures. This recipe is very easy and straight forward. If you have an outside grill, it works well however, if you do not, you can still use your oven. I recently learned that the suya spice a lot of people call Yaji is not actually called Yaji. Yaji is apparently just pepper in Hausa and has nothing to do with the Suya Spice. If any Hausa people are out there, please educate us. What is the difference between Yaji and Suya Pepper and what is the name of Suya pepper in Hausa? In the mean time, enjoy the Afrolems Chicken Suya Recipe

You can find out from the mallams that sell suya, they might have it for sale or just in a regular lagos market. They would have it. Just ask for yaji

Hello Ify, I cannot provide accurate information about the number of calories, if you show a nutritionist the recipe, they may be able to deduce the amount?

Afrolems, I am looking for the pepper chicken recipe. The grilled/roasted pepper chicken often served at owambe parties/backyard barbeques. We call it “chicken suya” but in actual fact, it’s grilled pepper chicken. Can you help?

Hello Zefe, I know exactly the chicken you are talking about. I have been trying to stylishly beg for the marinade recipe but to no avail. Believe me, I will get it and publish it!
