Mini Jelly Donuts Delight
I have to put out a quick disclaimer to say this is not the type of donut that has jelly in it. It just has jelly on top of it. I did successfully get the jelly in the donuts with a pastry bag and toothpick. It just did not make it to the blog because it was a lot of wrestling with the donut and it did not look as pretty in the pictures. I promise to perfect it and come back to re-upload the picture. It has been inspired by my Jewish friends celebrating Hanukkah. I also did not add eggs to my recipe because I ran out of eggs to be honest but eggs would give it a fluffier texture for the donut. I simply replicated a previous donut recipe I had with a few minor adjustments.
Recipe for Mini Jelly Donuts
Ingredients
1.5 cups of flour
3 tablespoons of sugar
1.5 teaspoon of yeast
1 tablespoon powdered milk
150 ml of warm water
Pinch of Salt
Garnishing
2 tablespoons of Strawberry Jam
2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
Method
In a bowl mix the warm water with the yeast, whisk and allow to sit until the mixture is foamy.
Mix the flour with the salt, sugar and powdered milk and pour the yeast mixture into the bowl.
Knead the dough till its elastic and not sticky and cover and leave to double in size. This could take 1-2 hours.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out your dough but not to thin so your doughnuts are not flat and cut the dough into circles. I used a glass cup to make the circles out of the rolled out dough.
Leave to rise for another 1 hour.
Heat up your oil and fry the doughnuts till they are brown on both sides.
Sprinkle the sugar over the donuts and with a pastry bag, squeeze the strawberry jam on the doughnut.
To add the jelly in the donut, make an incision in the donut with a toothpick and squeeze the content of the pastry bag into the doughnut with the toothpick still in the center.
