• Doughnuts Recipe

I am getting way better at this pastry business. I should really consider exploring this part of cooking more often. One of our afrolems fans on facebook requested a doughnut recipe but i immediately thought, i don’t have shortening how will i achieve a soft fluffy doughnut? Then I realized that not all doughnuts are that soft and fluffy. So maybe I will do another post with a soft and fluffy doughnut. This recipe is soft enough and very yummy. I also chose not to add a lot of sugar to the actual doughnut Because i knew i was going to glaze it with extra sugar. You can also glaze it with other things like chocolate sauce or maple syrup or whatever else you have handy. Without further ado, check out the doughnut recipe and let us know if you try it out.

    Recipe for Doughnuts

    Ingredients

    150 ml warm water

    1 teaspoon yeast

    30 ml honey

    1.5 cups of flour

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 tablespoon of powdered milk

    Method

In a bowl mix the water with the yeast and honey, whisk and allow to sit for 15 minutes or until the mixture is foamy.

Mix the flour with the salt and powdered milk and pour the yeast mixture into the bowl.

Knead the dough till its elastic and not sticky and cover and leave to double in size. This could take 1-2 hours.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out your dough but not to thin so your doughnuts are not flat and cut the dough into circles. If You have a doughnut cutter use that, if not use a small round shaped cover or bowl to make your circles and a smaller container for the middle hole. You can improvise and use the mouth of a plastic bottle to make the hole in the middle.

Leave to rise for another 45 minutes.

Heat up your oil and fry the doughnuts till they are brown on both sides.

    Vanilla Glaze

Mix 1 cup of powdered sugar with 30 ml of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Whisk till its properly mixed and drizzle the doughnuts with it. Add sprinkles for garnishing

    Chocolate Glaze

I used a chocolate sauce and drizzled over the doughnuts with sprinkles to top it.

your doughnut recipe dosn’t include butter? Does it work that way too? Yinka

Hi yinka, i decided to not include butter just as an experiment but butter or shortening makes for a fluffier doughnut

Hello Wunmi, yes you can, however, I am not sure about the exact measurement if you are using evaporated milk

Hi, thanks for you post, pls I have been trying other recipe but when it gets to the frying stage the doughnut becomes flat. Secondly can I mix the recipe and leave to rise over night, because it turns out that if I do it in the morning my kids will not take it to school, because I will not be done with the preparation. Thanks

The problem with it falling flat is after making the holes, you may not be giving it sufficient time to rise some more. When you shape it, allow it to rest in a warm place and it will rise some more and then fry it.

Thank you for visiting this website. Yes 1.5 means one and a half cups. I have never made mine with butter so I can’t recommend an amount. I do not do special coaching on snack making.

Don’t know what went wrong, the dough refused to rise. I followed all the steps and even left it for close to two hours for it to rise yet nothing.
